We are normally not ones who toot our horn and my nature like to live below the radar, however we have just received some news that puts a smile on our humble faces from ear to ear.

Wiscomm adds Alinco Amateur Radios to it's winning line-up

With the recent addition of public safety scanners from GRE America to our product line-up, we have been offered the added product line of Alinco Amateur Radios. We have used Alinco radios for our amateur radio hobby for over twenty years, we have always been impressed with the value they offer in both mobile and handheld radios to the Amateur community. The Wiscomm crew is heading out to Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon to check out the 2011 International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE). Wiscomm Two-Way Radio Install: 2010 Honda Element

Wiscomm just added a 2010 Honda Element EX for some in-town pick-up and deliveries, we recently partnered with Rob Sprader at "Emergency Lighting & Electronics, LLC" to properly install a few radios and antennas into this vehicle. Here is a brief summary of the installation and equipment involved.

Radio's installed: Motorola CDM 1550-LS+ UHF LTR Mobile Radio, Motorola CM300 VHF 32c Conventional Radio, Sprint HTC EVO.

Ground off body of vehicle, never direct to battery. Positive tap off main power supply. Split Loom Tubing on all wires, interior, exterior including all antenna feed lines.

Custom fabricated bracket, notched plastic on center console, affixed to floor with stainless steel screws.

Ignition sense relay, powers radio on only when vehicle is running. This can be changed to offer a programmable delay. Again, all wires have Split Loom Tubing for protection.

Motorola Announces New APX Series - Dual Band Portables

Motorola recently made a fairly big announcement at the APCO conference a few weeks back. They unveiled the Motorola APX-Series radios. These units will allow users to have the benefit of using their current 700/800 Mhz Trunking System (Analog or Digital) along with the added benefit of having VHF (155 Mhz) frequencies for Mutual Aid (MABAS / IFERN). Here is some PR from Motorola:

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the industry’s first Project 25 (P25) multi-band subscriber family, APXTM portable and mobile radios– enabling instant multi-agency interoperability for mission critical first responders. Motorola’s 4th generation P25 subscriber is multi-band (700/800 MHz and VHF), communicates with current and future networks (FDMA and TDMA) and has integrated GPS.

Designed specifically for first responders by applying the science of High Velocity Human Factors (HVHF), the dual-sided portable radio has both an audio and data side providing optimal functionality and loud and clear audio in a compact rugged form factor, which amplifies public safety officials’ ability to keep their communities safer than ever before.

Part of Motorola’s MOTOA4^TM portfolio, APX is the first multi-band radio to meet and exceed public safety specifications for mission critical communications and is 15 percent smaller and 50 percent louder than existing Motorola P25 radios. The radios look great! Sign me up! Only a few problems, they are expecting first deliveries in Q4 2009 and here is the kicker, an estimated street price of $6,000 depending on options! Ouch. Motorola Bluetooth Wireless Adapter
